N. 27th St. Intersections

The City of Milwaukee Department of Public Works and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation are proposing a safety improvement project at the following three intersections along North 27th Street:

• North 27th Street and West North Avenue
• North 27th Street and West Center Street
• North 27th Street and West Locust Street

The goal of the project is to improve pedestrian and vehicular safety due to the high frequency of crashes. This project consists of upgrading traffic signals, including monotube mast arms with signal heads over each lane of traffic at each of the intersections. Flashing yellow arrows will be installed for the drivers in the left turn lanes to use at North 27th Street and West North Avenue. Additional improvements are planned for the intersection at North Avenue. These improvements include reconstructing the pedestrian curb ramps to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards and re-positioning the median concrete island to be located outside of the crosswalk, where necessary. The project will be staged to keep a minimum of one through lane open in all directions.
