GRAFTON, Wis. — Traffic flow is about to get a lot smoother along the northern leg of the 14-mile I-43 reconstruction project.
Starting Friday, the new third northbound lane of I-43 between Highland Road and Highway 60 in Grafton is open to traffic.
The stretch runs past Concordia University.
Work on the 5.5-mile stretch began in early 2022. Michels Road & Stone is the prime contractor on the project, which WTBA featured in a video last year.
With the new lane, the speed limit returns to 70 MPH north of Highland Road.
WisDOT says the entire I-43 North-South project is on schedule for a mid-2025 completion.
