WTBA regrets to inform you that George Shinners passed away Saturday, Aug. 15, 2026 after a brief battle with cancer.

Shinners, 87, founded Antigo Construction Inc. in 1978 and grew it into an international business with satellite offices in England. The company came to specialize in concrete breakers and recycling worldwide thanks to George’s leadership and vision.

His sons Matt and Chris now run the company, which is still headquartered in Antigo, Wis.

A mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday, Aug. 27, 2026 at 11 a.m. at St. John Catholic Church in Antigo. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the church. A private burial will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in George’s name with the Ss. Mary & Hyacinth Charity Fund (email HERE), Living Waters International and the Boys and Girls Club of the Northwoods.

Shinners led a life of community service and volunteerism. He served on the Langlade County Board, the Antigo Police and Fire Commission, the Unified School District of Antigo Board of Education, was a trustee of St. John Catholic Church, and joined numerous other clubs and organizations, according to his online obituary.

Shinners was the proud father of five sons, 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
