There isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution to protecting construction workers and drivers. It’s why WTBA has invested in a “three-pronged approach,” which is getting some national attention this week.
Executive Director Steve Baas detailed the association’s work zone safety efforts over the past few years for ARTBA’s three-day Virtual Work Zone Management Conference.
“We have to take a holistic approach and hit people from all different angles,” Baas told listeners.
Baas discussed WTBA’s efforts to work with WisDOT on expanding work zone awareness messages throughout the entire construction season instead of just one week in April. He also highlighted the successes of the Work Zone Safe Wisconsin program and the attention WTBA’s self-funded billboard campaign on I-41 in the Fox Valley has garnered.
“We show better than we tell,” Baas said of industry safety. “When all three prongs work together, we get attention and reach much broader audiences.”
Baas’ presentation rounded out a safety grouping that included Work Zone Safe founder Tom Robins and Pennsylvania DOT Traffic Control Unit Manager Brian Crossley.
