After years of research, delays, and now renewed support, you’ll have a chance later this month to learn more about a massive potential rebuild and expansion of I-39/90/94 in south-central Wisconsin.
WisDOT is holding three public hearings to discuss the proposed improvements to the 67-mile stretch of Interstate between Madison and Wisconsin Dells.
A hearing Monday, July 29 is virtual, running from 5-7 p.m.
The Department will also hold in-person hearings July 30 and August 1 at Madison College and Wisconsin Dells High School, respectively.

In mid-June, WisDOT and the Federal Highway Administration announced it completed a draft version of the I-39/90/94 Corridor Study.
The study highlights the importance of the 67-mile stretch for freight, commuters, and vacation traffic alike. Notably, the study notes tourism’s importance to the potential projects on Fridays through Sundays throughout the summer months.
This spring, a group of nearly three-dozen businesses, trade organizations, and chambers of commerce launched the Central Wisconsin Interstate Alliance, helping spread the word about the economic impact the interstate has on the region and state.
The draft notes drivers are 70% more likely to be injured in a secondary crash along the stretch.
WisDOT and FWHA says replacement is more effective than repair, due to more than 20% of the lane miles involved being in poor or worse condition by 2030.
