WisDOT’s Bureau of Structures will take a closer look at the Leo Frigo Bridge in Green Bay next week as part of routine inspections.

Crews and drone operators will be on and around the bridge, which carries I-43 over the Fox River, from Sept. 14-17.

They will close the southbound right lane from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, then close the northbound right lane from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday.

All work is weather dependent.

WisDOT’s Northeast Region reminds drivers the bridge is safe, there are no current identified issues, and the work is part of the state’s standard bridge inspection process happening every 12 to 48 months based on a bridge’s condition.

The Leo Frigo Bridge has had issues in the past, including a temporary closure in 2013.

The National Transportation Safety Board identified the bridge as one of 68 across the country needing an assessment to see if it’s at risk for a ship collision following the deadly Key Bridge collapse in 2024.
