BELLEVILLE — There are utility delays that cause wasted time, money, and headaches.  And then there are the kind which can nearly cause catastrophe.

A prime example happened this spring to WTBA member James Peterson Sons, Inc. crews working Highway 69 in Belleville.

While digging a trench on the edge of the road in the right of way, crews uncovered a four-inch gas pipe that hadn’t been marked.  In fact, the utility markers showed that gas line as being about five feet away, under the sidewalk.
