JOHNSON CREEK — Not only did a deck of playing cards have to come out to break multiple ties on Thursday – there was a tiebreaker for a tiebreaker.
Talk about an intense WTBA Fall Sporting Clays Tournament.
Bragging rights (and some prepaid gift cards) were on the line at Milford Hills during a perfect autumn afternoon. More than 170 shooters competed on the spacious and challenging course.
The first place team of (stop us if you’ve heard this before) Dick Palecek, Brad Stehno, Chris Larson, and Chad Johnson easily took home top honors with a combined 172. Then the tiebreakers came into play.
Palecek, Andy Krueger, and Nate Skarda all tied for best male individual score at 48. Skarda drew a King from the deck to win top honors with Palecek’s 9 beating Krueger’s 8 after an initial tie-draw. A tie (35) atop the 5-stand flurry station brought out the cards again, with Jake Welsh, Eric Hosig, Truie Brobston, and Travis Wise drawing the top card through a surrogate (all had left prior to the drawing.)

Cindy Williams, the Illinois Tollway Deputy Chief of Program Implementation, took the top women’s spot, shooting a 27.
Thanks to all who joined us for the last great outdoors event of the 2025 calendar season!
