Repair, replace, or remove?

Crews will do one of those things to I-794 in Milwaukee in the future, but which one is still very much up in the air.

This week, WisDOT will hold public information meetings to talk through the various options for the stretch of freeway that connects downtown-area freeway traffic to the Hoan Bridge.

Built in 1974, I-794’s bridges are wearing out and the roadway needs safety improvements.

WisDOT has yet to release its preferred option, but several groups in Milwaukee are pushing for the Department to tear down the freeway to allow for street-level development.

Public meetings are set for Tues., Aug. 1 from 4-7 p.m. at the Milwaukee Marriott Downtown and Wed., Aug. 2 from 4-7 p.m. at St. Thomas Moore High School.
