An important and heavily traveled stretch of interstate between Madison and Wisconsin Dells is due for some major upgrades in the future. The question now is what those upgrades will look like.
This month, WisDOT held several public involvement meetings to share concepts, layouts, and possibilities for major construction on I-39/90/94. The Department wants to narrow down options for the 67-mile stretch over the next six months.
“Analysis shows that if no project is done along the corridor, the existing highway will need 24 maintenance and rehabilitation projects on pavement and bridges over the next 30 years,” a Wisconsin State Journal article says. “Traffic flow at major intersections, particularly in the Madison and Dells areas and the intersections at and near the I-39 split, could drastically worsen as well, according to the data.”
