A longtime WisDOT staffer – whose work will directly impact WTBA members – can now drop the “interim” name from his title.
This week, the Department announced Michael Hoelker as director of the Bureau of Project Development.
Hoelker has served as the Bureau’s deputy director since 2021. He began his career with WisDOT in 1994.
The BPD coordinates monthly project lettings and provides general guidance for state and local highway and bridge programs.
“It’s important to me that WisDOT and industry continue to work closely together to leverage the most good we can from our transportation investments,” Hoelker told WTBA in a statement. “Communication and partnership are vital to continued improvement.”
Hoelker lives in Fitchburg with his wife and three children. He enjoys playing and watching soccer, working around the house, and caring for his garden.
Hoelker’s first day as BPD director is Monday, June 5.
