Wisconsin’s roads, freeways, and bridges allowed trucks to transport more than $350 billion worth of freight in 2023.
WisDOT is working to update its State Freight Plan to ensure that critical economic driver continues to grow and has strong infrastructure in place to do it.
The state is accepting comments on the new four-year plan now through July 17.
Goals of the 2027 Public Involvement Plan include:
- Identify a targeted internal and external stakeholder base to guide the development of
- the State Freight Plan
- Provide timely notice to encourage stakeholder participation and feedback
- Educate stakeholders on the plan and why it’s important to provide feedback
- Provide meaningful opportunities for early and continued participation throughout plan
- development
- Gather stakeholder input to identify current freight needs, concerns, issues, and
- potential opportunities for freight in Wisconsin
- Incorporate stakeholder input into the plan
Wisconsin’s freight transportation network also includes air, rail, and waterways. Trains carried the next-highest amount of freight in 2023, totaling about $176 billion.
